Hughes Estate Sales, an estate appraisal and sales company, was founded in 1978 by Larry Hughes and is now owned and operated by his son, Todd Hughes. With a long list of satisfied clients, Hughes Estate Sales has earned their well-deserved reputation for providing excellent service and obtaining top dollar for their client’s property in estate sales of California and other parts of the country.

Larry helped ignite the re-birth of Old Town Pasadena, California, when he opened his first storefront, Riff Raff, on Holly Street in 1978. He specialized in vintage California Pottery and twentieth century art and collectibles. Larry then pioneered the antique mall concept when he opened Holly Street Bazaar in 1980. In its heyday, Holly Street Bazaar housed 50 dealers and was regularly featured in travel magazines and collector’s guides from as far away as Japan. Larry then opened his first eponymous store in Pasadena’s Playhouse District, where he built a loyal following of estate sales California customers who appreciated his eclectic mix of American, European, and Asian antiques, collectibles, and fine art. Larry retired from Hughes Estate Sales in 2006 and handed the business to his son Todd.

 

Under Todd’s management, we continue to provide full service estate appraisal and estate liquidation to the Southern California region. Hughes Estates Sales also offers auction appraisal services and initial consultation services for new clients. Todd grew up learning the business from his father. In addition to the extensive knowledge of fine art and antiques developed while working with his father, Todd has an expertise in unique ephemera, Mid-century Modern design, and contemporary art. From 1997 to 2000, he owned and operated a retail store specializing in these items on Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena. Todd was one of the first to sell antiques and collectibles on eBay and has built an avid following of internet-based buyers. Having worked closely with his father for over twenty years, Todd’s professionalism, expertise, and enthusiasm for the business carry on the tradition of Hughes Estate Sales.
